Hans-Peter Rieck has been managing director of Prosacon since the company was founded. Rieck is a recognised expert on the REACH Regulation and product safety. Since the EU Commission published the white book “Strategy for a prospective chemicals policy” in 2001, he has been advising companies on this issue.
Rieck studied chemistry in Braunschweig and went on to pursue a doctorate. He then moved to Hoechst AG in the Rhine-Main area, where he initially worked as a laboratory manager and as personal assistant to the head of the Chemicals Division.
One of Rieck’s career highlights was the invention of SKS-6, an essential builder component in powder detergents. With this highly relevant innovation, he realised a dream that many researchers have. The chemist then supervised the construction of respective production plants in Germany and in Japan, where he spent four years. In parallel to this, he expanded his business activities to include the worldwide marketing of layered silicates.
As part of the restructuring of Hoechst, Rieck joined the Swiss multinational corporation Clariant, where he was responsible for plant and product safety. His activities focussed on implementing REACH in industrial companies. During this time he gave talks in global seminars.
In 2006, the expert for specialty chemicals founded the consulting firm Prosacon. Over the years the company’s range of services has expanded to biocidal products.
Rieck’s advisory policy is to be critical in the interest of the client. “I see it as my task to prevent harm to the company.” He is convinced that “product safety is not only necessary, but also a great selling point for a company. Safety sells”.
Rieck is married and enjoys golf and skiing.
